#Methane….. what % from cattle & dairy cows? New study shows energy companies assumptions about how much methane released by flaring (& not flaring) were way way too low. https://t.co/kPTQskvwc9
A new study out that shows gas flaring at oil and gas facilities is emitting 500% more methane (a greenhouse gas 28x potent than CO2) than previously thought. Another of many data points that show natural gas is not and never has been a “bridge fuel”. htt

Yet another example of industry and government vastly underestimating methane emissions, here from flaring: https://t.co/fIqtTpj4Qy
💡 New research alert 💡 @UMich and EDFE scientists find methane emissions from flaring are 5X what we previously thought. Flares operating at an average 91% efficiency lead to excess methane. The climate impact 🟰 3 million cars. https://t.co/vTAGEmI0Gk

Generally flares are assumed to destroy methane with a 98% efficiency. In this paper flare efficiency was calculated using airborne sampling across three basins of the US and found that flares are effectively destroying only 91.1% of methane. https://t.co
Inefficient and unlit natural gas flares both emit large quantities of methane https://t.co/CyRGGi0Hht

Fresh off the press -- a new article by my previous colleague Genny Plant at U. Michigan showing that natural gas flaring is much less effective at reducing methane emission than previously assumed https://t.co/AxCWPTgmeA
Flaring is less effective at reducing methane emissions than originally thought (91% of methane burned vs. 98% previously). Something #Bitcoin mining has already been helping to mitigate. https://t.co/11bff0at6k
Cheers to @umclasp researchers on their “Inefficient and unlit natural gas flares both emit large quantities of methane” study, published in @ScienceMagazine [DOI] https://t.co/1SEzfTrJWW
